Spring 2012 Game and Practice Schedules

The Greater Des Moines Junior Soccer League (GDMJSL) for U12 and above Level 3 Recreation is targeted to have Spring 2012 league game schedules available to clubs at least two weeks before games begin. Once the schedules are available and considered final, they will be communicated to coaches and teams.

U8 and U10 teams are part of the East Side Coalition and their team schedules should be available around the same time as GDMJSL.

U8 and U10 girls teams games are generally scheduled for Saturdays, and the rest of the age brackets and divisions are generally scheduled for Sunday games, with occasional Saturdays as needed.

The Spring 2012 soccer season will have league games beginning the weekend of March 31 – April 1. The last weekend for games will be June 2-3 with the last weekend for make-up games being June 9-10.

Teams are generally scheduled with two practices a week, with normally 8-9 league games.

Division Levels

The Pella Soccer Club (PSC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing competitive, organized soccer for Pella area youth with U8 through U19 teams. PSC is part of the Greater Des Moines Junior Soccer League (GDMJSL) and Iowa Premier Soccer League (IPSL) and a member of the Iowa Soccer Association (ISA). Teams are formed based on the ages and the number of players allowed on a roster, as well as the ability to find coaches, so team membership cannot always be guaranteed. The PSC consists of two main divisions – Recreation, which is GDMJSL, and Premier which is IPSL. ISA designates Recreation level teams as Level 3 and Premier teams as Level 1.

Level 3 Recreation is intended to provide the opportunity for all players to participate and enjoy the game of soccer. All Level 3 teams are coached primarily by volunteers who generously give of their time and talents. Team formations must be random in nature and cannot take into account specific requests or ability of the players. Teams are grouped by age and grade when possible to allow players to stay together as they move up from one age bracket to the next.

Level 1 Premier offers players a higher, more advanced competitive training and playing environments under the instruction of professional coaches as part of the Iowa Premier Soccer League (IPSL). The PSC Premier teams are known as the Pella Oranjes. Oranje (Orr–ahn-ja) is Dutch for Orange and is the color of the Netherlands National Football Team. Orange is the royal color of Holland, originating from the coat of arms of the Dutch founding father Willem of Orange-Nassau. Players are invited to these teams through tryouts each June for the upcoming Fall and Spring seasons.

Age Brackets

Age requirements are set by the Iowa Soccer Association (ISA).

For the Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 seasons, this age is determined by the player's age on July 31, 2011.

Team Age Number of Players Roster Max Size Ball Size
U8 6-7 4v4 (no goalkeeper) 8 3
U10 8-9 6v6 (5 field, 1 goalkeeper) 10 4
U12 10-11 8v8 (7 field, 1 goalkeeper) 14 4
U14* 12-13* 11v11 (10 field, 1 goalkeeper) 18 5
U16* 14-15* 11v11 (10 field, 1 goalkeeper) 18 5
U19* 16-18* 11v11 (10 field, 1 goalkeeper) 22 (18 for game) 5

*Spring Season - U15 and above play High School soccer in the Spring season. 8th grade players who are U15 soccer age can play U14 with an 8th Grade Waiver for the Spring season – contact registrar@pellasoccerclub.com.

Playing Up

There are situations that arise where a player may need to play in an older age bracket. This would be done only to allow the player on a roster or to allow another player on a roster, for example, if PSC would have two more U10 players than the max team roster allows, and there is room on U12 teams, then those who volunteered to play up would be considered first for playing up for that season. Players can only play up one older age bracket. There is no guarantee the player would stay with this team in future seasons.

Equipment

It is recommended that each player bring an inflated soccer ball to practices. A size 3 ball should be used for U8 players, size 4 for U10 to U12 players, and size 5 for U14 and above. For their safety, it is mandatory that all players wear shin guards during practices and games.

Parental Volunteer Support

Your help is needed! Pella Soccer Club is Pella's only regulation soccer program serving over 400 players and we exist through volunteer efforts. During the registration process, you will be asked to select a volunteer option for at least one parent/guardian for each child that you register. The options are Coach, Assistant Coach, Coach/Assistant for player's sibling, Concession Stand, and Currently serving on PSC Board. Depending on the number of coaching volunteers per team, some may not be needed that season, and others may be asked who did not initially volunteer. Those needed to coach will be contacted by our Director of Coaches. Concession stand volunteers will be assigned by the Concession Stand Manager and you will be emailed your assigned date(s) and time(s). If your assigned dates do not work, you are responsible to trade with another volunteer. If your schedule does not allow you time to volunteer, a fee of $25 per player will be accepted in lieu of your time and is an option during the volunteer selection.
